Life got a bit hectic there, hence no newsletter for a while. Plus, I like to keep my newsletters exciting rather than regular, so without further ado…

Introducing Lyrical Ludology: A podcast about the lyric game niche of TTRPGs!

Lyrical Ludology will be a short interview podcast where I nerd out about lyric games with fellow lyric game creators. For season 1, we explore the question ‘what is a lyric game?’, so if you don’t know what a lyric game is, that’s totally ok!

To me, the lyric game niche is the most exciting and innovative part of the TTRPG scene. It’s where I’ve seen a lot of bold, vulnerable, inspiring, and impactful work. While I’m a huge fan of lyric games, I know many folks aren’t even aware it exists - or perhaps are aware but not sure of what it encompasses. I could talk about it for ages, and I think it’ll be way more interesting if my voice is not the only one on the show.

I’ve managed to book a load of extremely exciting creators to chat with, all of whom have brought designs to the lyric scene that have influenced and inspired me. I can’t wait to talk to them and hear their perspectives, let alone share it with all of you!

My hope for this podcast is that it will be:

• Fun to be part of and to listen to

• Shed light on the lyric game niche as an exiting and innovative space in the TTRPG scene

• Spark conversation about lyric games

• Inspire people to make that weird game they’ve been thinking about

That list is pretty much in order too. I want this to be a fun endeavour. As part of that, I’m only promising one season at the moment. After it’s released, I’ll see how I feel and what others think. If it was fun, I’ll go again! But I’d much rather take one satisfying and exciting step at a time, than promise a marathon and tire myself out.

But what about the birds?

You’re right! We do games and birds here, so please feel free to squee loudly at this photo of a baby and parent Dusky Moorhen I managed to capture recently…

It’s been such a joy to walk to the wetlands and see these babies emerging!! Last week I saw 4 baby Moorhens all at once, so cute and fluffy! I’ve also recently seen a Swamphen (unusual) and a Little Black Cormorant (irregular visitor) and a Little Pied Cormorant (regular visitor). It’s interesting to note how the landscape and wildlife change as we get closer and closer to Summer here in Australia.
